Thought for the Week: Actions Speak Louder Than Words
James 1 17-27
Ohh Lord - I don't just want to read it. I want to do it.
I don't just want to speak about love and kindness, self control and goodness.
I want to do something about them.
I want to act them out.
I want my life to be known for those good things.
And this isn't about getting good marks
in some heavenly copy book.
This isn't about justifying myself in some way -
saying - 'look at how good I am.'
It's not about any of that.
Its just that this stuff means so much to me.
I can't help but feel that if it means that much...
then what I want from my life - much than anything else
is for you to be seen in it.
For me to act on what I've said is important.
It's always the way isn't it?
We're surrounded by people who tell us that
certain things are really important to them.
And then you look at the things they do and you think to yourself...
'well - that's not right.'
There's a disconnect.
And you end up thinking - if what they said was important to them
really was - surely you'd see it.
Be aware of it.
In the things that they actually do.
Lord - if I speak of love - let me show it.
If I say that everybody is equally loved in your eyse
let me do something about that.
Give me the courage, give the strength
to live the life that I talk about.
Because in the end I am pretty sure
that actions speak louder than words.
And I know that's a well worn statement Lord -
but it's that way because it's true.
So Lord let me draw so close to you and your love in Jesus
that that love overflows from me
in actions that transform the world.
