Diverse Beliefs United Action

Rabbi Kath Vardi

We are all appalled at the actions of the far right targeting the Muslim community and asylum seekers across the country. Whilst the families of those killed and injured in Southport mourn and the community of Southport grieve alongside them, we are witnessing an attempt to harness the politics of hate to further an agenda of division and a rejection of the richness of difference and diversity that form the core of our British and Progressive Jewish values. The actions of these demonstrators are of concern to us all, both Muslim and Jewish communities, here in Surrey and across the country. As Jews we know what it means to be a persecuted group, targeted for our difference. We understand the importance of a pluralistic and inclusive society that actively works towards inclusion and equality. While Muslim communities are being targeted, we stand with them in solidarity and uphold the politics of hope and co-operation rather than hate and division. Here at North West Surrey Synagogue, we pride ourselves on our commitment to inter-community cohesion and understanding. We value the richness that our differences can bring. Promoting and protecting the values of a multi-cultural society is of the utmost importance. Let us be rightly proud of the richness of our diversity here in our little area of Surrey and across the country more widely. Rabbi Kath Vardi
