Rabbi Alex Goldberg
I am writing to express solidarity with both our Muslim and refugee communities and those serving in police services around the country and utterly condemn the violent disorder seen in several towns and cities today that have followed the devastating tragedy in Southport earlier this week.
The targeting of Muslims, refugees, asylum seekers, and other minorities is appalling, and the violence directed at police officers is disgraceful. Nothing can ever justify this kind of behaviour. We fully support the police, government, and our partners in other communities in their response to these divisive protests.
Our thoughts are with the officers and communities affected. I spoke on BBC Surrey and Sussex of the need to recapture that spirit of diversity and togetherness that I believe many experienced during the London 2012 Olympics. I feel Surrey Interfaith Forum is ideally set up to do this in the county.
I stand in solidarity with all of you during this difficult time and express my deepest appreciation for the police service here in Surrey, who have provided support to myself and my family over many months.
I hope we can all work to renew ties and build bridges and bring our communities together in the coming days, weeks and months. In the meantime, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Alex Goldberg
