35th May Play
A member of the Chinese Congregation from Trinity Methodist Church will be performing in this play at the Southwark Playhouse. The play is entitled 'May 35th' because the date 4th June is not recognised by the state.
May 35th
It is past midnight on May 35th. Armed with a dated map of Tiananmen Square, a candle and some matchsticks, a cleaner's work permit and a family's secret buried for 30 years, an elderly couple is getting ready to commit the bravest act yet.
Based on interviews and real life stories of parents who lost their children at the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989 this is a moving story about an elderly couple's wish to hold a proper ritual for their son in the same place where he was murdered by the state 35 years ago.
