A lesson from my garden

‘Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!’ Psalm 133:1

I don’t think this Bible verse just refers to men! I would suggest that this statement applies just as much to women.......

A few Christmases ago, I was given a teacup birdfeeder on a stick. This has provided me with many opportunities to watch the birds in my garden. I am particularly amused by the pigeons. To get the food, they have to stand on the edge of the cup and put their heads right inside. I think they earn the food they get.

Some of the pigeons are greedy and chase the others away. However, I was surprised the other day to see that two of them seem to have learnt how to sit side by side, so they can each benefit.

If you look carefully, in the first photo pigeon A has its head in the bowl, while pigeon B is on watchout duty. In the second photo the roles are reversed. There is no fighting or squabbling; they are happily taking turns and so both get fed equally.

At the moment, there is a lot of fighting and squabbling going on in the world. Wars are being fought over territory. There is a great display of man’s inhumanity to man. What a lesson we could all learn from these birds!
