Thought for the Week: Sunrise

I have never been an early riser. Ever. Not even as a child the temptation of all those presents waiting under the tree on Christmas morning could lure me out of bed. When I travel, I never take an early morning flight, preferring to miss a day’s holiday than have that day spent in an absolutely foul mood.

We foster dogs (which is another story, dear reader) and this particular dog that we have now wakes up at 5am on the dot. You are not going to believe it, but I’m the one who gets up with him and takes him out for his ablutions. Whilst standing in the garden with nothing but the birdsong around me, before the hustle and bustle of the day begins, I was reminded of the Bible verse from Psalm 113:3 “From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

I actually look forward to that minute of peace and quiet now. It gives me time to breathe in, focus on God and commit the day over to Him. Something that I never had the time to do before. Granted my day doesn’t start there, off I go back to bed and am asleep before my head hits the pillow. But there is definitely something to be said for the beauty in the early morning stillness.
