Remembrance Sunday Service

Residents were being encouraged to honour Remembrance Sunday from the safety of their homes this year.

Unfortunately, due to the current Coronavirus restrictions, Woking Borough Council’s annual Remembrance Sunday service was closed to the general public. To commemorate this important event, WBC hosted a closed, socially distanced ceremony in Jubilee Square for a small number of invited veterans and civic dignitaries.

To mark the occasion virtually, but safely, WBC live streamed the event via their website and YouTube channel on Sunday 8 November at 10.45am. The filming adhered to the latest Government guidance to local authorities to host remembrance services.

Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Mayor of Woking, said: “It’s with sadness that we cannot come together as a community to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. Through the wonders of technology, I’m delighted that we can bring this important and poignant event to you all, safely, in your homes."
