During lockdown, I have had more time to observe the House Sparrows nesting in my neighbour’s roof. These small birds are in decline in England, so it is good to see that this pair produced two sets of offspring this year. I have discovered they eat the greenfly that attack my roses. They perform incredible aerobatics, giving me fascinating air displays in and out of the garden. They are also incredibly noisy, almost deafening me when I am drinking coffee on my patio.
In Biblical times, sparrows were plentiful. I am wondering if they were sold in the market as food in Jesus’ time? He said, ‘Aren't two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent.’ Matthew 10:29
If God cares so much about small birds, how much more will He care for you and me? The Bible goes on to say that He knows how many hairs are on our heads. Amazing!
