11 people attended the Environmental Work Party on Saturday 2nd October 10am to 12 noon at Heather Farm on Horsell Common. The day started overcast and grey, but then the rain became heavier, and the volunteers became wetter! They pulled up pine saplings; some came out easily, roots and all. The silver birch trees needed to be cut closer to the ground as they had sprouted vigorous new growth below a previous high cut. The gorse was prolific but as it needed specialist equipment to attack it due to the prickles, that had to wait to another time. Louise’s knowledge as a gardener was invaluable. John provided water and chocolate bars halfway through which were welcomed enthusiastically by all.
