The event created a welcoming space for women to meet, talk, and build new friendships across cultures and beliefs. The atmosphere was buzzing with warmth, laughter, and meaningful conversation as attendees enjoyed hot drinks and cake.

Cllr Louise Morales, Mayor of Woking opened the gathering with a heartfelt speech, highlighting the importance of learning English in helping women integrate and access opportunities. She shared how inspired she was by the determination and progress of the women involved with Shifa.

Kawther Hashmi, shared examples of ongoing interfaith projects—ranging from environmental clean-up events and interfaith sports to an upcoming event for Refugee Week. She encouraged everyone present to get involved in interfaith volunteering, noting how such efforts help weave stronger, more compassionate communities.

Rahat, from Shifa, spoke about the work her group is doing to support local women, including conversational English sessions and sports activities that empower women and promote wellbeing.

The women were invited to connect with someone from a different faith tradition. Over tea, coffee and sweet treats, women shared stories, learned about each other’s cultures, and left feeling uplifted and inspired.

The coffee morning was a beautiful reminder that when we take time to connect and listen, we discover not only what makes us different—but what we share.
