Public Prayer
Mr Nick Timothy, a Conservative MP and Shadow Justice Minister, recently criticised public prayer in Trafalgar Square by Muslims in the run-up to Eid. He called it “an act of domination”. Really? Since when has public prayer constituted “domination”?

Christians hold public religious events to celebrate Christmas and Easter. A local Jewish Group recently held an event in Jubilee Square to celebrate the Jewish festival of Chanukah. Were they also “acts of domination”? Or is it only Muslims who attract Mr Timothy’s ire?
This is blatant anti-Muslim prejudice. This is confirmed by the fact that Mr Farage gave Mr Timothy his enthusiastic support.
Some fifty years ago, Mr Edward Heath instantly sacked Mr Enoch Powell from the Conservative Shadow Cabinet for a speech riddled with racism.
Challenged to do the same by the Prime Minister, the present Conservative Leader Mrs Kemi Badenoch’s disgraceful response was to accuse Sir Keir Starmer of “sucking up” to Muslims.
The right to free assembly, and the right of worship, are fundamental human rights. No responsible political party should attack them.
And we are all enriched by celebrating our diversity.
