Held at Karak Chai, the breakfast created a relaxed and friendly space for meaningful conversation, connection, and learning. Attendees gathered not only to share food, but to listen deeply to one another’s experiences of faith, belief, and community life.
The morning began with an introduction from Phil Simpson, Chair of Woking People of Faith, who invited everyone to reflect on one way they could bring harmony into their own lives and communities based on their faith. This simple prompt sparked rich and thoughtful conversations around the table as people enjoyed their meal.
Participants spoke warmly about the depth and openness of the discussions. One attendee reflected on the shared values that emerged, saying: “It was about values, and I also learned a lot about a faith I haven't had much contact with before, as everyone was open to being asked questions.”
Others highlighted the honesty and trust in the room: “I was able to share openly about the challenges a believer faces today, whatever faith we proclaim to have.”
The breakfast also created space to explore wider community issues. As one participant shared: “We talked about youth engagement,” while another valued the opportunity to connect with others doing grassroots work: “Meeting someone new to me and hearing about their community work,” and “Learning about other workers within the wider community.”
Many attendees described the atmosphere as “genuine, open, and inquisitive about each other’s faith,” with one person noting: “The depth and openness of the conversation,” and another reflecting on a key outcome of interfaith dialogue: “Confirmation that we have commonalities as well as differences, as with anyone else.”
Karak Chai kindly supported the event by offering a 30% discount and providing complimentary karak chai, adding to the warmth of the morning. Attendees were also pleased to learn that the venue has a multi-faith prayer room, a gesture that was warmly welcomed and appreciated.
The feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone saying they would attend an interfaith event like this again. The breakfast demonstrated how simple, inclusive gatherings can build understanding, strengthen relationships, and contribute to greater community cohesion, especially at a time when creating spaces for respectful dialogue is more important than ever.
