After the fierce winds of Storm Amy, which brought gusts of up to 80 miles per hour the day before, the group was greeted by calm skies and sunshine, ideal conditions for a morning of meaningful work.
Armed with tools and enthusiasm, the volunteers headed to the area designated by the Horsell Common Preservation Society (HCPS) and set to work pulling up saplings and cutting back gorse to give the heather space to flourish.
The diverse group included representatives from the Bahá’í, Catholic, Anglican, United Reformed, and Quaker communities, along with others of no particular faith, all united by a shared care for the environment.
Their combined efforts will help the heather thrive once again, supporting the rich biodiversity of the common. Thanks to this work, species such as Nightjars, Dartford Warblers, Slow Worms, and Butterflies can continue to make Horsell Common their home.
A wonderful example of faiths and communities coming together to protect the natural world!
