Faith and Fellowship: Celebrating Chinese New Year at Trinity Methodist Church
Chinese New Year was celebrated at Trinity Methodist Church in Brewery Road on Sunday 2nd February with a joint service by the English and Cantonese-speaking Chinese congregations. The sermon was given by Rev Dr Paul Glass, Superintendent Minister of the Wey Valley Methodist Circuit, with translation by Mr Simon Che. Adopting three of the defining characteristics of ‘Year of the Snake’ we were urged to reflect on the words of love preached by Jesus, through which we may grow in faith and experience a personal transformation in our lives. Prayers were led by Pastor Simon Sze Du and Mr Hugh Bowerman and the Blessing was given by Rev David Foo. Both languages were used throughout the service with an invitation to share the Lords Prayer in any language that was most natural. After the service some 200 people enjoyed a sumptuous banquet prepared by members of the Chinese congregation.
